Hence I wish to trumpet them around for all to become aware of them so that we realise that there is also light and goodness around: Together with the throngs of young people attending our Summer Camps at Savio College and Senglea and our summer schools in our Dingli and Sliema oratories throughout many weeks of this past summer, thanks to the hard work and generosity of many young Salesians and Salesian Youth Animators, in early June at Valdocco Turin, Br. Jean Paul Mutombo Matala Yann was ordained a Salesian deacon. He is a Congolese Salesian missionary who is a fully fledged member of our Maltese Vice Province. Then during the month of September, five young men, committed themselves further to the Lord Jesus as they followed him on Don Bosco’s way: Brothers Johan Bugeja and Clint Rizzo, emitted their Final Vows as Salesians of Don Bosco, Brothers Raphael Axisa and Matthew Alfino, together with some Polish brothers among us doing their practical training experience in our houses, renewed their temporary vows while Dr. Antoine Galea, had his first religious profession at Colle Don Bosco Turin at the end of his novitiate year there. Indeed these are momentous events, true headlines of grace, worth sharing and thanking God for, reminding us that Our Lord Jesus still continues undeterred to add splashes of dazzling colours and write straight on the crooked lines of our beleaguered, grey existence so often scarred by many internal and external events that dent our daily lives. Let us continue to trust God and let us turn to Him wholeheartedly for it is by striving to do all with, in, through and for Him that we can ‘Live Jesus’ as the wise St. Francis de Sales often encouraged his directees to do. In so doing, we gradually transform our mundane humdrum into a symphony of wonder. Only in this way will we be able to live authentically and stand out for all the good reasons becoming beacons of hope and light in a world growing increasingly bleak and dark as it careens further away from Jesus Christ, true God and true Man, the source of Light itself. May we never forget that our souls were made for God, who became man like us in everything except sin, and they will never find their true rest, unless safely cradled in Him, the Lover of our souls.
