Francis and the Holy Shroud of Turin In 1613, during a pilgrimage to Turin for the exposition of the Holy Shroud, Francis was mandated by Prince Charles Emmanuel to be one of the privileged few to actually hold the precious relic displayed to the public in Turin’s Piazza Reale. Overcome by emotion, his beads of sweat fell upon the Holy Shroud for which he always had a tender devotion. Treatise on the Love of God In 1616, Francis completes the Teotimo , his most important written work, originally entitled Treatise on the Love of God . Final trips to Paris and Turin From 1618-19 Francis makes a triumphal trip to Paris. These are months of intense preaching and precious networking with significant ecclesial personalities: Vincent de Paul, the apostle of charity; Angélique Arnaud, abbess of Port Royal (whom he admonishes for her intransigence and rigid spiritual severity); and the renowned cardinal Armand- Jean du Plessis, Duke of Richelieu. The saint’s swan song was as moderator of the General Chapter of the Cistercian “Congregation of the Foglianti” in Pinerolo, Italy (just outside Turin) at the behest of Pope Gregory XV. 27 hajja Embroidery detail done by St. Jeanne de Chantal Lulju - Settembru 2022
