Hajja Salesjana July-September 2021

H AJJA S ALESJANA A brief introduction of yourself, your family and your studies. I was born on 22 April 1940 in Msida, the second of five children, three boys and two girls. Hardly two months had passed and World War II broke out in Malta. Our house in Msida was badly hit and I was buried underneath the debris with my mother and my eldest brother Joseph. The Parish Priest came on the scene and according to my mother, he said to her: “The fact that these two sons of yours did not die today shows that God may want them both for himself.” He was correct as both of us were ordained priests in religious life. I studied in government schools. I did a course in pottery and three years in the School of Arts in Valletta. As a Salesian I continued my studies in Malta, England, and Rome at the Salesian University. 1. How did you come to know Don Bosco? The preparation for my First Holy Communion took place at the MUSEUM in Msida. The catechist taught us about the life and works of Don Bosco by means of slides and filmstrips. I loved it! My hobby was to collect holy pictures and that of Mary Help of Christians was my favourite one. At the age of 17 I went to the Salesian Oratory in Sliema for the first time. The Salesian Brigade was of great help while trying to find the Oratory in Sliema. Meanwhile I worked for a few years at the Pottery of Malta Industries, continuing also other studies. After that I became an aspirant at the Sliema Oratory. 2. Fr.
