4 It was a dull, bleak and cold winter’s day in the city. The rain was drizzling and the sky was a heavy greyish white. Life was proceeding with its usual humdrum routine. People rushed past and car horns honked while the cold, damp winter air whirled around. Indeed everything looked bland and ordinary when suddenly something extraordinary happened and changed the whole scenario. Something pierced the mundane of that moment and made me look up and smile as it eloquently reminded me of how beautiful the miracle of life we have been freely given, truly is. From one of the few large trees found in the little garden which hems a large secondary school in the heart of the throbbing city where I live, a little robin began to chirp away the most delightful melody. It literally made me stop in my tracks and listen to this wonderful tune that was soothing music to my ears. Few bothered to notice and stop to take note but this robin still kept on chirping away with great gusto. There and then it managed to raise my thoughts to the awesome loving God we serve who sends us little constant reminders of His love through such unique fleeting moments which we need to take note of, before they are gone in the blink of an eye. It was this incident that came to my mind as we celebrate the great solemnity of Easter, the cornerstone of our faith. Jesus Christ’s triumphant resurrection smashed through all our darkness and like an explosion of dazzling light, made us look up from the dull rat race we all seem to be enmeshed in, were the glorification of being busy is the order of the day, and it made us turn our face towards the sun drenched path of hope Our Lord has opened up for us. A path, which leads us straight to the eternal bliss of Paradise, as long as we remain faithful to Him, to His Word and to His Church - the torch bearer of His light today. Will you and I, as disciples of Jesus Christ, as children of light, be bearers of His resurrection light here and now or will we blow out that light as it is considered too challenging to our status quo comfort zones today were the excuse of tolerance risks to smother us all? The choice is in our hands but if we wish to live life to the full, our soul within us knows very well which decision we need to make. If a little robin can make such a big difference by its pleasant song, why can’t you and I do the same by our one and only life we have, as we are drenched in God’s eternal Easter triumph? Life is God’s gift to us. What we make out of it, is our return gift to God! Let us all strive to make it a good one. Happy Easter! Fr.
