Hajja Salesjana January March 2018
23 The meeting started with Fr. Sandro Camilleri, the Salesian responsible for the Salesian Family in Malta, welcoming the Rector Major and introducing the different groups of the Salesian Family in Malta and Gozo. In his welcoming speech, he emphasised the importance to remain faithful to Don Bosco’s spirit and to be Christ’s witnesses in our society today. The Rector Major thanked everyone who was present today and spoke about the importance of the different groups of the Salesian Family. He pointed out that the different Salesian Family groups show the richness of the charism of Don Bosco and they offer people a different expression of living the Salesian call today. He explained that while it is true that there are similarities in the different Salesian Family groups however there is also uniqueness and richness within every group. The meeting proceeded with a representative of each group making a short presentation on the strengths, challenges and opportunities being faced by them here and now. At the end of each presentation, a question was put to the Rector Major who had duly prepared himself with some challenging and inspiring thoughts which he shared with us. The Daughters of Mary Help of Christians were founded by Don Bosco with Mary Mazzarello and therefore look at the Rector Major as though he is Don Bosco for us today. Although, the Salesian Sisters are a small group they are actively present in Gozo and in Malta.
